all tied up.

Re: OLD CLIMBING ROPES

Come to think of it, it probably would have taken three peeps at a pinch.

Yeah, it is strange how these threads drift, but not that suprising that many outdoor loving boating peeps have climbed and hill walked I suppose

Re: OLD CLIMBING ROPES

Progress via a tin bath in the river, camping with Cub Scouts, building a canoe at 12yo, mountain walking with Scouts then into Climbing with senior Scouts and Outward Bound School in Aberdovey, then Tall Ships with Ocean Youth Club. After a short spell with rally cars and autocross built a speedboat, sold it to buy a racing dinghy and downhill all the way from there....

The frightening thing is that most if not all of those activities whilst a youngster would never happen now, not enough cotton wool to keep the lawyers away.

Re: OLD CLIMBING ROPES

I took up sailing when the knees and ankle ligaments packed in - your excuse?

I had a very nice link until Kim told us off about it. I'm not bitter mind.

Re: OLD CLIMBING ROPES

Didn't have enough time to enjoy all my past times and hobbies, so have learnt to restrict it to one, though still get the hankering to go back to hang gliding. I'm not fit enough to really enjoy serious mountaineering anymore

The nearest I get these days is 'Heart Attack Hill' on our golf course! The view from the top over Poole Harbour is (almost) as good as the view from a summit and there is a flat landing area for the rescue helicopter.

Re: OLD CLIMBING ROPES

I'm just far too scared to enjoy rock climbing anymore- get sweaty palms just thinking about it.

Re: OLD CLIMBING ROPES

.......adapted miners helmet, Bergans, Aschenbrenner regulation length ice axe, waist line of 1/4" hemp wound round and round, smock with scorch marks across the back from abseiling the old fashioned way, arriving 2.00am in Glen Coe and pitching tent on a frozen bog..........boy, those were the days my friend.

Seven proper ones - 1 @ 40m; 2@15m; 2@10m; 2@6m. Plus 2 or 3 shorter pieces used, for example, to tie midship cleat tight to pontoon, when required. Oh and also a 50m "cable" attached to the anchor chain.
I'm obviously under resourced, looking at earlier threads.

Re: OLD CLIMBING ROPES

Yep. Wondered what happened to that hemp waistline? Might come in useful someday.

Just another irrelevant footnote.
