Oh gawd, tell me about it. Any chance your SWMBO could supply a list of her favourites? My SWMBO would love them and I may gain valuable brownie points.
 
There is a new French film coming out called ´Le Solitaire about a Vendée Globe skipper (Francois Cluzet) who, when he stopped somewhere for a repair, finds a young stowaway on board.

About 2/3 of the film is shot on board a real Imoca 60 and they really went offshore looking for bad weather. The total movie crew on board was 14! There were 3 professinal skippers in the team and the whole thing - especially the noise is said to be very realistic.
 
There are other classics, not available in any shops...

...It's My Flat and I'll Chat if I Want To...He Made Her the Man He Was...plus the classic It's Puppy Fat, Don't Whippet...also, The Road to Miss O'Journey...and Age of Contempt...

Jeez, I ought to write these down! Much better than the crappy titles which smother any interest in mid-afternoon movies on Channel 5...though some do sound a bit X-rated... :rolleyes:

I suppose women regard manly films about practical problems in remote places (where they couldn't scream for an authorised approved solution) as irrelevant & boring. I'm not sure why - I haven't sailed alone over the horizon, I live in a city full of "social issues", but that doesn't seem to me a good reason to dedicate entertainment to such depressing themes.

I love any film with subtitles - they seem to exclude the popcorn brigade, very effectively. :)
