Hi Lovely People

I have a little trip to Alicante planned. Do those of you who have stayed that way, have any good ideas of places to visit restaurants etc. I know I can do the Michelin guide and Google etc. But there is nothing like local knowledge when visiting a newish place. A long time since I was there and things come and go. Have car so can travel.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

go from the marina/sea front up Rambla Mendez Nunez, about 5 blocks until you get to the Museum de Fogueres. Turn left onto Career Teniente Alvarez Soto. Go about 1 - 2 blocks and there are loads of bars restaurants etc, very popular with the locals.
The Volvo Ocean Race Museum behind the marina is really good if you like boats

I really like El Portal as well. It's more of a trendy wine wine bar than restaurant but the food there is awesome. They only have a few tables for dinner so it's vital to book in advance.
I'm more of a 'metre of pizza' from Sale & Peppe kind-of-guy though and the 'http://www.fooders.es/' burgers in the same street are also rather good, if not exactly fine dinning.
The only decent steak place we've found is Bodeguita 1999. Not fancy or expensive, just good steak.
If you want posh then https://www.elsvents.es/new/en/index/ . I think it used to be on the marina but has now moved into town. Haven't tried it myself but gets good reviews.
There's no shortage of eating places in the area.

Edit. For things to do. If you've never been to Alicante before, take the lift up to the castle. It's much better than you'd think from the ground looking up at it.

Gosh thank you for all of this:

El Portal menu reads so well I could work through from top to bottom, which would take a few visits. So will book that, has anyone done lunch there or is it really a night-time place?

Bon Amb in Javea looks super too

Any more happy to receive.

For someone a tad lazy a lift up to a castle sounds a great idea too. The market also feels like a must see
place.

.

I'd go in the evening and not before 8:30

Stayed there a few times - we stayed in the Melia which is next to the marina & a short (5 min) walk into town. Spotted a nice hotel while we were in the town (Hospes Amerigo) which I will try if I go again.

As others have said, El Portal is very good. Quite trendy & suave with DJ etc. Food nice but IMO the place next door to it - MANERO is better food with a more traditional (but no less classy) interior & feel. I had a fantastic meal there, in fact one of my favourites of all time.

Hi Diana, if you’re considering going further afield then I’d recommend la Costera in Altea, or Sabor, again in Altea, directly opposite the marina.
