The trouble with holding on to the shrouds or pushpit while taking a leak your invariably bracing your body. This delays the actions and puts you in a dangerous position longer. Using the correct tool in the comfort of the cockpit or cabin is much more relaxing. And yes the cord is tied to the neck of the appliance.

I find trying to pee using anything other than the correct tool simply doesn't work. Agree re cord tied round the neck of the appliance but what is the other end connected to? The pee-bottle?

Presumably the cord is tied around the neck of the jug, rather than the user?
Also applies to people with "flat bottoms" as well!
