Evening all,
Has anyone used one of these long range wifi adapters successfully with Win 7? Just want to make sure it's compatible before buying...
Thanks,
David.

Hi,

I use the Alfa AWUS036H adapter with Windows 7 and it works a treat. I think I have an old version (500mW) but it is great. In fact I don't know how I could be without it!

Hope this helps

Terry

I got the 2000mw one (AWUS036NH) with the 9db aerial which makes a huge difference. With the standard laptop wifi I saw 2 spots, with the Alfa 10. The marina had issues with the nearest wifi aerial and whereas previously I never 'saw' the other spot, I was able to connect with no issues. Works on Win7 and XP.

Remember that these draw power from the USB so will deplete notebook batteries faster!

Also, a USB extension cable (active) so I can place the aerial on the coachroof if needed.

Software is OK but check the internet for latest drivers. Also, the internal wifi must be disabled on your PC and the Alfa connected before installation. I found the latest utility software on the RALINK website (Not Alfa) who actually make the chip http://www.ralinktech.tw/support.php?s=1 and you can determine what chip is used by looking at the install CD that came from Alfa which will probably have references to the RT2870 in the case of the 2000mw Alfa unit.

+ 1, I've got two. Works fine with Win7.
I've used one of them up a mountain in Spain. I got a good connection to a wifi signal which was well over a mile away, the performance is amazing.
