Aldidl charger problem

I've had both my batteries linked together and on charge using my little Aldi 3.6a charger. I've just been re-wiring my garage so had to turn the power off. Afterwards tried to restart the charger via the selector button but it won't budge off the stand by position. Batteries are 55ah and 85ah.
It had previously been trickle charging OK displaying the 'full' and 'charging' lights.
What can be done?

Firstly, speak to it sternly and threaten to buy one from Lidl. If that doesn't work, threaten it with extreme violence. If it still fails to operate, carry out that threat and then go a buy another one.

Mine still works... touch wood-
Are you getting a volts reading?

Some modern 'not going to work but it's worth a try' could be
Powering it down for a longer period...
Trying a flat(ter) battery...
Looong press of the mode button..
Finding the receipt/card record and taking it back...

I have two in operation on old gash car batteries at home and have found, recently, that they are reluctant to respond to the 'mode' button. One seems to have a contact problem and will eventually find a position where it will respond (i.e. on one point of the button). The other just seems to take a long time to wake up after reconnecting to the mains (i.e. it will work as expected but has a teenagers waking cycle).

I also use the CTEK equivalent on my spare engine setup. That works immaculately but was x times the price of the Lidl items.

Now I know I am not alone with this problem, I'll take a bit more notice of what happens and report back if I find something.

Cheers
Bob

I believe the Aldi charger came with a 3 year guarantee - only any good if you retained the receipt.

I haven't had any issue connecting the charger to a fully charged 100Ah battery but I have only connected to one battery at any time . Connecting to two batteries might have been a little too much for it .

Try connecting to one battery ?

.

Mine doesn't seem to like being switched from one battery to another. It needs a good long rest before it will respond to the button pushes on the new battery. I usually leave it overnight and it's then OK again. I suppose it just gets weary.

I think maybe I'll alter the connection point so that it goes through the vsr and take out the link. This is prioritised to the smaller start battery and will parallel them when it's up to snuff.

I have the same charger I'm pretty sure it says max battery size is 120 amps/hr. I don't know what difference that would make but looks like you'd need to charge them individually.

Must admit I've lost the instructions but I thought it was 140ahr but you could well be right and even so I'm near the top end. But it was coping before I switched it off. Maybe I need a bigger charger.
PS I don't want any advice on which charger to get.

Unfortunately that's not the one. Mine doesn't have a voltage display. The 120ahr restriction does look familiar though. I doubt if my batteries are now actually that big.

Good news! Went to sort out charger this morning armed with tools and alternative (un smart) charger and found that aldidl charger had magically re-set itself and responded to buttons again. The lights show (indicate) that it's charging and not fully charged. Maybe the charge from solar panel has partly charged them and the demand is less. Further investigation necessary but not till after Christmas.
Further update, green light on so fully charged.
