That is a useful set that contains large sizes up to 32mm. I have some Aldi ratchet spanners that are good quality, so if you need the large sizes as well as the small ones that looks a good deal.

A fine set of spanners but what you need to do for the boat is pick out just the sizes you actually use on the boat. Leave the rest at home. good luck olewill

I was given a set of Aldi spammers from am earlier offer, they are probably the same. last time I used them I commented how good it was that the smaller unusual sizes were included like 7 and 9 mm. I was going to take these back off the boat but although I don't think the engine has anything in those sizes it's always possible something else on the boat like a light fitting for example uses one.

There are an awful lot of nuts and bolts in all the gear on my boat. I wouldn't like to assume I'd found and measured them all, for the sake of saving an ounce or two in the tool locker.

Quite so. I once made the mistake of buying a set with "gaps" in the range, then had to buy the intermediates for various jobs. Now I have a non-matching set, which really irritates my anal personality. :)

Look What We Found :
Didn't know they were going out of production. We buy them regularly, got some just the other day.The storage life is impressive, ideal for the locker. They are more than just sauces though - haven't you noticed the meat balls ?:) Hard to track down in Tesco/Sainsbury as they are in a very small section with limited range but they are often shoved in 'World Foods'.

I read it to mean that they did both sauces and meals, but were ditching the former to concentrate on the latter.

Instructions are for microwave.
Not being a cook can i ask - how else does one prepare them

In a saucepan. Either open the pouch and tip it in, just like a can, or put the whole thing in the pan and add enough water to just about cover. (Ideally it would be fully immersed, but there's always a couple of awkward corners that stick out, and this is ok.)

Speaking from reheating other pouched foods in the past; on the boat I'm fortunate in having a friend who actively enjoys cooking full meals (pies, roasts, etc) from scratch :)

I've just returned from Aldi with a set of the spanners and they look pretty good - chrome vanadium steel (whatever that means!) with the plastic rack.

However, Nigel is right to make his point as there are two sizes omitted for some reason - 29mm and 31mm.

I bought my existing set of spanners in 1976 when I bought my first Japanese bike and suddenly all my AF, Whitworth and BSF spanners were rendered useless. They were/are a professional set which I got through a friend in the motor trade for £20 (the price sticker is still present!), a similar same price to the Aldi set at £30, although an internet inflation converter tells me that £20 in 1976 is equivalent to £125 now, and my old set only went from 8mm to 24mm.

The 1976 set did not include 18mm, 20mm or 23mm. My mate explained that these sizes were very unusual and it was not a problem. However, here we are 40 years later and guess which sizes I have had to buy as I came across nuts of those sizes ...... yes, 18mm, 20mm and 23mm. As Nigel says, non-matching!

At least the Aldi set haven't made that mistake again! History will decide on the impact of the 29mm and 31mm omissions although these very large sizes are not that common anyway.
