Went to check out the sailing wear at Aldi this morning.

The clothing looked OK but the smallest size they do is Medium which I tried on but the jacket was enormous - even allowing for the addition of a pullover, fleece and thermals. I didn't try the trousers. If you were of a larger size you might well be on to a cheaply priced winner.

I bought the binoculars which look well made and, at £50, a good buy. The compass is well damped and clear. Time will tell if they are a bargain. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Was looking at the the Aldi sailing jacket this morning. It looked like good quality and hence excellent value at £39.99, but it only comes in bright yellow (the colour of madness) hence there is a distinct possibility of going around looking like Mr Plod on crowd contol. The person next to me in the shop was also deciding not to buy, as he said: wearing that, there would be nowhere to hide.

Not that I am biased of course, but in real life my family laugh at the fact I seem to wear beige and navy, but on the boat I do want to be noticed, particularly if I take an unintended plunge, so- - - I wear a bright yellow set, not from Aldi, tho I may well look for a spare set.

Saw the jackets, but did not need one. Only thing I bought was the £5.99 waterproof duffel bag. Here
Looks very useful when I need to ferry stuff in the tender.

Didn't go for the oilies but got the LAST pair of binoculars from our local Aldi at 10.45 and had to ask for them as they were 'under the counter'. Obviously very popular and certainly seem OK.

oilies looked good, but didn't like the pockets, If I hadn't bought a new set last year I probably would have bought the trousers.

Bought the oilies (to keep on board for visitors), the waterproof bags and the binoculars. When I tried the bins the compass illuminator flashed once then gave up. Took them back and got another pair which seem to work OK.

The binoculars carry a three year guarantee so its going to be an expensive exercise for Aldi if they aren't reliable!

I checked out the oilies too and have bought two sets for visitors. I have to say the look well designed, well made and incredible value for money! I shall be testing them out to see how they compare.

Bought the jacket and the bins but only massively large trousers left. The jacket seems of good quality (and I’m sorry but I like the colour!) There might be just the start of some separation between the laminations where the jacket has been folded so I’ll keep you all posted on that. The bins give a very clear view and the compass is well damped but there is quite a lot of shadowing if you don’t have them perfectly adjusted and presented to your eyes. Very good for the money though.
