My alarm has taken to sounding very very faintly but in a two tone pitch, not the usual high pitched note. Neither of the warning lights is lit and frankly the engine cannot be overheating since it comes on when I fire up at the beginning of the day. Oil level is fine and there seems to be plenty of oil reaching the rocker assembly. Loose connection do you think? Any way of being confident about oil pressure without some expensive kit? Anybody had this before?

When did you last change your fuel filter? The same alarm doubles as fuel filter alarm. If the alarm stays on at high revs, then it is probably a foulled fuel filter and not the oil pressure it is warning you against.

I changed the fuel filters about four weeks ago. I have no irregular running suggesting anything wrong in that department although I have probably only motored for about two hours since renewing them. Can air lodge in the engine fuel filter? I changed the in line one first, ran the engine to suck through the diesel from the tank which is always a bit of a chore, then the engine stopped as the air previously in the filter moved up. Then I changed the engine fuel filter and bleed the system. I then noticed what looked like some dirt floating in the bowl of the line filter I had previously changed and in trying to drain it out managed to empty it again (I dropped the drain plug and it rolled under the floorboard! So I started the engine again to suck diesel into the line filter which it did. I expected the engine then to stop as the air worked through again but after a couple of minutes of hunting, it seemed to self bleed itself and it hasn't missed a beat since.
