Alado Nautica furling gear?

You might look at Spintec USA based company have no connection but I'm told its very good and bullet proof.
Weak dollar and all that cheers...Russ

recently i have installed on my boat the alado system ! what i can say is, that the installation was very easy (only lost one of the bushing /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif & have to wait for a new one to complete the instalation) and during the test, everything was very smooth ! i dont have a time, to test in strong wind ! for the moment, i am happy and save me the "troubles" with the big head sail, everytime, we go for sailing ! if you are a racer - the system is not for you, but if you are a person that can sail just for fun without competing, should be not a problem
anyhow, after more sailing can update for outcome /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Does the halyard arrangement put the headstay foil into compression ??

I've had the Alado furler on for the past 5 years. I'm very happy with it. Very reliable. I've had it half-furled a few times hove to with 30kts with no problem.
The price was very attractive, especially as they quote it freight and customs/VAT paid, makes it simple.

In January I had to replace a few foil sections and bushes as it bent when the forestay snapped. The weakening of the forestay was my fault as I had my mooring rope pressing against if at each jetty I visited for a few months. The replacement parts took only 6 days to arrive from Brazil, at about half the price of a whole system (USD $100 per pair of 5 foot foil sections, freight incl IIRC).

There is no halyard tension to the forestay. I suppose you're right - the halyard tension compresses the foils, as the line goes up to the block and then cleated at the drum. It doesn't distort the shape of the foils, or anything.

Very easy to install the system - join top sheave block halves, add foils 2.5 foot section and then 5 foot sections, then measure length of bottom foils, easy to cut and file smooth. Only then undo forestay at the base, slide on the drum, re-attach forestay and tension, wind on the furling line, etc. About 3 hours total.

Glad to hear that you have had success with the system barnaclephill. I was hoping someone on the forum would have been using one for a while. The support sounds handy too.

I may consider this system seeing as it is well within the budget. The alternative is a Plastimo system which I have used before without a problem - I'll have to have a think I guess!
