Aladdin mantles

The mantles wont.
It requires wicks.

Any half decent hardware store should have wicks that will fit.

the lamp has wicks

they are wound down

they burn onto the mantles and make them glow

Are you sure it uses mantles . Mine does not.

No unfortunately it won't, the mantle lamp has a frame and stands off the burner, it would be difficult ranging to the impossible to adapt a standard wicked lamp, like what you have, to use a mantle.( this statement is derived from Internet research after the YouTube video of one was posted.).

This gives some insight;

Still a new alladin mantle lamp is only $150 or so plus postage:)

Never seen an unpressurized mantle lamp till now, does seem to be the ideal for your use.

I guess the burner has to produce a blue flame. A yellow flame like you get with an ordinary oil lamp would simply coat the mantle with soot!

No....The Loxon Mantle is designed to fit a flat top wick housing with a flame diffuser. Your wicks would not produce the correct flame to utilise the mantle shape
also the dome shaped wick housing would not match the base of the mantle. Just get an Aladdin Lamp....Lots of old fashioned ironmongers on your route!!!!!;)

this is bad,

very very bad

I actually found the web page interesting

getting into dangerous waters here lads

however, we did once have a pair of Alladin lamps - with round wicks and lots of holes

they burned very brightly

but the mantles were so easy to break

why can't some-one invent a mantle that does not break

Well as you are clearly smitten with retro lighting have you thought about acetylene lights?

Are mantles still radioactive?

Yes. On a health physics training course I went on a while ago we had a play with geiger counters. It was far too difficult for the training centre to get hold off proper radioactive sources, even low level ones for training, so they used mantles instead. They geiger counters go off scale if you hold the detector up close to the mantle.
