Hi and good evening all, i am trying to remove the bearing races from a small boat trailer, it has an al ko axle. I've removed the wheel and both bearings, i have removed the outer race using the usual method ( a punch from side to side and out it popped) ,however the inner race is a different issue ,there is no lip on the race to put the punch on , its actually lower than the casting and there are no access points to fit the punch through to the back of the race . well I'm beat, i cant see any way to nock this race out, can anyone please help. thanks. Kieron

If there is absolutely no purchase anywhere to knock it out then you either have to make access or more likely heat the hub up as hot as you can get it with a blow torch or hot air gun. then drop it on a big chunk of wood to jar it out.

Good luck

Use an angle grinder to cut diagonally across the inner race, avoiding cutting into the stub then use a cold chisel to split it.
I think you have misunderstood the problem ( or maybe I have ! )

I think the Op is having difficulty removing the outer race of the inner bearing from the hub. I don''t think you could attack that with an angle grinder.

yes VicS you are correct, but UPDATE i have managed to remove it by putting a chisel into the tiny gap between the casting and the race ,and a few nocks later it had moved a bit ,giving me a slightly bigger gap that enabled me to get the chisel under the race and was able then to (with the aid of a hammer )lever it out. I'm sure this is not the recommended way to remove the race BUT IT WORKED. I've removed probably hundreds of bearing races in the past but this was definitely a first. thaks to all for reading and commenting.Kieron

It may be worth buying a puller like this. Often they will be enough on their own but you can also use heat too. Thy are also much better than just belting it due to the constant pull or pressure. You

I doubt if that would have worked. . . I have one similar.!!

Removing the inner bearing race from an AL-KO axle can be tricky because of the lack of a lip for easy punching. The ideal solution is to use a bearing race puller. This tool has a variety of attachments that can grip behind the inner race and pull it straight off the axle. You can find these at automotive parts stores or online.
