Any solution to this yet?
SH agree that there's probably something wrong with the unit rather than antenna (the VHF side receives and transmits properly), and that if there are AIS signals being transmitted in the vicinity then the unit should automatically display the targets.
But I haven't been down to the boat since I first posted, so haven't been able to get the unit back to SH for their engineers to check it. If it is faulty, then they'll correct it or replace the unit under the 3yr warranty. (I actually bought it two years ago, but only got round to fitting this season.)
Will report back once the fault is diagnosed.
Ais will only be displayed if a gps signal is present. You dont need a high speed nmea output / input for gps nmea 0183. I am unfamiliar with this radio but my money would be on it not getting the right gps data.
Does it require a dedicated gps aerial? My ais transmitter does.
GPS signal present and correct (from the new SH CP300 chart-plotter).
