I want to connect an Advansea RX 100 AIS receiver to a Standard Horizon CP 300i and would appreciate some guidance from someone who doesn't see a red haze on encountering NMEA......
The AIS unit has two output wires:
Yellow Transmit/Output +
Brown Transmit/Output -
The 300i has:
2.4.1 CP300/CP300i Connection Table
12VDC Power and NMEA PWR & ACC1 cable
Pin Wire Color Description Connection Example Additional Comments
1 Black Battery Ground Connect to Battery Ground
2 Red Battery Positive Connect to Battery Positive
3 Green NMEA Common Common (ground) for NMEA devices**
4 Blue Port1 Input Connect to Output of NMEA devices** Default is NMEA-0183
5 Brown Port1 Output Connect to Input of NMEA devices** Default is NMEA-0183 with GGA, GLL, RMC,
XTE, DBT, DPT, MTW, VHW sentences
6 Grey Port2 Input Connect to FF525 Default is Fish Finder
7 White Port2 Output Connect to FF525 Default is Fish Finder
8 Yellow Port3 Output Connect to Input of NMEA devices** Default is NMEA-0183 with APA, APB, BOD
This sounds to me that I should connect:
AIS Brown - CP Blue
AIS Yellow - CP Green
but I have no confidence in this. Can anyone clarify?
Second question. I have two separate power connections for the CP, one in cockpit and one by the chart table. This works well. Having decided what to connect to what as above, is there any reason why I should not split the outputs from the AIS unit to provide a feed to both power/acc leads? Only one will be connected at any one time.
Thanks
