We are considering the Ocean Signal AIS/DSC as our MOB device.
Our AIS is the old NASA ( mk3) working with our Garmin chart plotter. We have a 'modern' DSC radio.

I recognise that The symbol which may appear on screen may be basic ( appear just like another vessel ) but that is not a big issue.
We will possibly not get an audible signal via the AIS but should get an alert from the radio.

Has anyone direct experience with setting up/using the Ocean signal device with older AIS equipment or can you offer general advice?
Please bear in mind that it is a 'self help' MOB device we want and that avoidance of MOB situations is our first priority.

It would probably be worth contacting Ocean Signal with specific details of your AIS receiver, radio and plotter, and ask them what they think will happen. According to some reports, for some reason, this potentially useful equipment doesn't always do what it's supposed to do.

Furuno never bothered to support AIS mob on the NN3D plotter.
First they blamed the fault on my non Furuno AIS, but when we proved them wrong they went silent, the problem was that the plotter filtered AIS target with missing speed in the data package.
It is possible to test that your equipment can receive and display the alerts.
