The attached picture show the AIS aerial installed on my boat.
During crossing of the channel last week reception of targets, especially on the port side, was very poor with targets only appearing well after radar targets displayed.

The aerial is also quite close to the VHF aerial and I wonder whether this is a good idea?

Does this installation look right? Thanks.

That looks pretty poor to me. get it up high and where it has an unobstructed view for better results

Hi,
AIS aerials work much the same way as VHF aerials and can even be shared on the same aerial if you have a splitter. I'm pretty sure you wouldn't even ask if this was your VHF aerial. .....
Get another VHF aerial. This will also work should your VHF aerial break while out.
You can get a AIS only aerial but this has a much narrower band and you wont be able to swap them over should you need to.

Thanks all. I have ordered another aerial as suggested which the dealer agrees is the best way forward.

Anyone want a stub aerial!!??

Why the thing was ever considered to be suitable is beyond me but there we are. Suffice it to say most of the electronic work this guy did had problems of one sort or another.
