Funnily enough was talking to a dealer that works with all thre major brands , eber webasto and mikuni who reckoned the Chinese are breaking into this market and their heaters are just as good if not better and their after sales is far superior ie days instead of weeks for comparable parts from the factory, Plus price are again far more realistic. just a conversation mind you!

For the avoidance of doubt, that was not me and my response would have been entirely different, unfortunalely I can not speak in public other than to say the advert has been changed and some of the heaters offered are no longer shown. Also I don't recognise the parts lead times mentioned at all, can't speak for Eber, but Webo, Mikuni & Wallas are next day if required.

Are these the Planar heaters from Russia? Good quality units with excellent value for money, widely used in Siberia.

Again, no real address in the "find us" section and it seems to have " 3 guests online" permanently.
 
They are also contravening EU and UK law by not having their business address on their website.

The Ebayer's shop is Airstream Heaters and their address is in Bradford so its probably their website so buy via Ebay. (their Ebay feedback comments as a seller are good)
 
If you look on terms and conditions in website there is a Motorhome co. with address mentioned also in the terms something about an optician co. probably get some information if you ring mob.no.on contact page. The heater reminds me of the early ebers. I think it is no bad thing as less micro electrics ,these ecu units cost hundreds and seem very vulnerable , a friend bought a used DL2 and ended up spending nearly £300 for an electronic unit.

This is the old eber. model I referred to ,interesting comment about the heat exchanger but it does say they are good for 10 years.View attachment 29262

Well after reading the advert I'm still not much wiser. What terrible wording. No mention of Ducting or exhaust fittings no mention of timers and only a reference to a thermostat.
I'd love to hear from someone who has one.
 
came across these again when searching for "diesel heater". Anyone got one yet? The self contained unit with built in tank seams very cheap and simple.
 
Its cheap but it aint nearly as cheap as a good used eber which will surely last longer than something made in china? my
d1Lcc was 150 quid on ebay ex bt van and I have put hundreds of hours on it with no trouble at all. Its usually running at max chat too on my 32 footer.

The Chinese might already have, or soon will, break into this market. I buy extensively in China, have two full time product inspectors there and my partner is over there at least four times a year. So I think I can say I know something of sourcing, buying and building products in China (no boat stuff however).

They are good engineers and very capable, but they don't originate any western products, they either copy them, usually when a potential customer sends them a sample or build to design drawings supplied. They are usually reluctant to supply spare parts retrospectively but will supply what you order with a product order. If copying from a sample for a greedy western wannabe who wants to shortcut development costs, they seldom obtain compliance testing themselves, leaving that to their customer, though test houses like SGS and TUV have facilities around China if the customer wants to use them.

I would be cautious personally. The product might work fine but I would not trust an ebay seller who is importing the stuff. either to comply with the requirements of CE (it is the responsibility of the first importer to comply, not the producer unless they are inside the EU) or to support the product afterwards. Also, if a copy, there might be IP issues.

If the seller is legit, ask him to supply a copy of an independent test report less than 2 years old and a copy of the 'document of conformity' which has to accompany the product or be contained in the user manual. If he can't or wont, you know what to do!
 
I have one of these heaters I am fed up with spending shed loads of cash on the Eberspachers they are so unreliable and the cost to repair or even diagnose is preposterous. My heater is 5kW it has cost me £350 its basic and works well, I was a little concerned regarding the availability of spares if needed, I directed this question to the supplier, he assured me ''he could provide any spare for my heater'', he has sent a spare glow plug at no cost as a good will gesture, what a service.
I purchased the heater with the on-board tank this has been removed, the only issue is the exhaust outlet is 40mm instead of 28mm on the ebber so the fitting had to be changed.

May I ask who the dealer is that supplied you ?. (I am interested in one of these) Also what model is it ? I have been on the web site mentioned earlier in this thread and it is a bit confusing - could not see a 5kw one.
