Aircon Retrofit cost

On our T40 we had 2 units. A 12,000 BTU unit that cooled the aft cabin and saloon ( which was OK but could have done with a bit more cooling power ) and a 7000 BTU unit for the master cabin ( that even on the hottest med day could make the cabin like a fridge).

The saloon / cabin unit worked fine - it just lacked the ability to really cool the cabin down fast - if I were retro fitting I would put in a higher power unit - show power capacity permitting. From memory the part of them used to consume about 10 amps ( for the pair) when running.

I suspect the Generator will cost far more than the AC

£15k is plenty if no genset needed. Our Phantom 42 cost about 7k 10 yrs ago for a proper split chiller AHU set up (we had genset). I would think £8k-12k depending on quality and power, and whether you get split chiller/AHU or not

I had my 45 foot sports cruiser (now based in Spain) retrofitted for less than £5k about 2 years ago. Supplier used exactly the same equipment as the OEM fitted. Can recommend Toby at Keto in Poole who did the work

I think all depends on your system architecture, and what type of boat (flybridge/sportcruiser). Like Andrew38 mine was sub £5k, for a single 16000 btu all-in-one unit which cools the saloon and master cabin. But although this is ok for the relatively small interior volume of a sportcruiser, it won't be enough for a flybridge. So then you might need two self-contained units, and the costs will go up almost proportionately. Alternatively you might prefer a different architecture with remote chillers and local ahu's; different pricing model again.

Your aircon system will dictate the capacity of the gennie; for my single 16000 btu installation I get away with a 4kw generator, which secondhand cost about £5k fitted iirc. Secondhand gennies are pretty rare though, and a new Onan 4kw is about £7k I think, plus installation which is non-trivial (and requires a lift-out, for example, as would the aircon install).

No generator either so that is required
Not necessarily. I can't remember to have ever turned on the a/c at anchor - and it's not like I'm used to cruise in cold climates...
That said, I'd probably want a genset on a 40-44' mobo regardless.

Sorry I misread the genset bit. If you need genset too then definitely £15k is accurate assuming a simple ac architecture
