Air rifle law

Yep. Now in reality didn't need a shotgun on Windermere - could have reached out of the cockpit and brought 'em down with the boathook!

There is no doubt that the crows and magpies at home had the measure of my shotgun and .22, stayed very nicely out of range.

Sadly they couldn't tell the difference between the .22 and the 22-250 /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

I'm with a couple of fellow forumites who haven't been answered...

Why on earth would one want to carry an air rifle aboard?

As a regular user of both rifles and shotguns I strongly believe in responsible use and storage. In a time when private ownership of shotguns and firearms is under severe scrutiny, those of us who enjoy the privilege are, imho, duty bound to be responsible and squeaky clean.

I appreciate that your question was about air rifles but, again imho, the same principles apply.

Please therefore share your "good reason" as the law requires for carrying one?

Rant now over. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I can't see any good reason for keeping an airgun on board, so why bother?

Many years ago in pre HSE, PC, Nanny-state days, I always took my air rifle on my dad's old motor boat. In those days there was hugely more rubbish floating up and down the Medway Estuary. I would sit on the foredeck on the look out for floating discarded light bulbs. When hit they would disappear with a most satisfying bang - great sport, great days; and I always thought that it prevented the bulbs from being washed up on a beach where some poor child might .... Oops we seem to be getting back to the nanny-state.

Like it

Where can I buy a 20mm cannon

Or even a 50cal Browning

It would look great pn the foredeck of the Colvic.

Not sure what the marina would think of it though.

AIRGUNS IN PUBLIC PLACES It is illegal for anyone to have a loaded airgun in a public place

[/ QUOTE ] If you lived in the Sevenoaks area you would also know that that armed police are likely to shoot you dead! Questions asked later!

They will generally ask you to put your weapon down first. Bit unfortunate if you happen to be deaf or listening to your MP3 player at full blast . . . .

I was once accosted by a policewoman as I left a newsagents in Derby. She asked me why I was wearing a 9 mm pistol and that it was against the law.

I pointed out to her that as I was in full combat uniform with three Army Land Rovers parked by the kerb that maybe she should have a think about what she was saying.

After I got back into my Land Rover, she told the driver to stay there until she had made some enquiries on the radio.

I didn't hear the reply she got, but she said we were free to go. But, before we started up, she asked my why my vehicle wasn't displaying a tax disc...........

Good job she didn't look in the back as everyone had a rifle and enough ammo to start a small war.

That day, we decided to spare Derby.

and things are even worse now , most of the recruits have been allowed in to meet HMG criteria on what ethnic or sexual origination they are , not how capable they are of doing the job , and if you ever wanted to look down on a copper it's so much easier to do when they're about waist high to you
