What is the appropriate air filter change interval on a boat in the UK climate.

Cars presmably breath in a lot more muck and dust compared to a boat. But an air filter change for cars seems to be a rare requirement. 30,000 to 60,000 miles perhaps ? Certainly cars go 20,000 miles between services these days. My car was just serviced - no air filter required and the next service is potentially at 29,000 miles.
30,000 miles in a car is eqivalent to say 700 hours running.

So should the engine air filter change interval on a boat be something like 1,000 hours?

It varies engine to engine, a good designed filter will look filthy in no time at all, it's an annual item especially on Volvo engines, the filters on the kad series seem to get dirty very quickly, and also on the d range, mainly down to belt dust residue.

Thank you.
I did change the air filter last autumn but there was a suggestion it was not really necessary.

I did get a lot of soot from the belts during our first year with the boat (Kad32). But since fitting new belts it's all relatively clean.

Martin, do you know I do work in farndon? Eric off sanity has my details as I look after his boat and others, it's also on his website as a link, cheers , oh I'm 30 mins away.

Thanks. I will bear that in mind.
The engine was serviced at the end of last season so should be okay until the autumn.
