Air B&Boat

Are you coming back to Conwy then?

Unlikely whilst Dripford is still in charge or that curtain twitcher is still resident on the straight taking illicit video’s.
Certainly not missing the weather in Conwy, I’ve had 3 weeks in Brixham and yet to put my flybridge cover on, in Conwy I needed ratchet straps to keep it on.:LOL::LOL:

Wow, what an extremely snobby thing to say.

This is the Motorboat forum...

I am no expert on the matter of letting a boat which I thought was Charter .
Maritime Coastguard Agency might give guidance.
Marina may in allowing security code to outsiders entering pontoon areas breach own insurance cover. Talking of which what of the boats insurance surely they have a say in things?
I think the boat needs to be coded if it is going to be let out on AirBnB.
Presumably there is also a proper hand over and safety briefing.

It’s certainly not what boating is about in my book, without challenge marinas will soon become floating caravan parks.
Air B&B are like the UBER of the travel industry attracting a certain type of clientele and unregulated.
I’m going to formally complain to the CEO of MDL, unlikely I will get a response but we will see.
What’s wrong with Uber? I use it all the time. And it is not unregulated. Rants are better when factual.

I rent a house on air bnb and have encountered hundreds of nice people in the process. Most people use air bnb and such like to enjoy their holidays and have a good time. That being said, having strangers in and out of the marina would cause me some concern.

A bold claim; section 3.9 would seem to put the onus on the owner to satisfy the MCA that they should not be subject to the full requirements of coding. It's not as simple as saying it's in a marina and not going to sea.
Interesting maybe you are right. But I’m not aware of any action taken and there was beds on board before air B n B so there is lots of it about.

We once stayed on floating b&b in Bembridge harbour. We found out that a few weeks before it sunk, so I can't see that if any coding is required it would be as strict as vessel that navigates the sea or rivers.

I could see peeps renting one say a 30 ft with 4 peeps but next door the boat is a lot bigger it will be alright for the kids to play on it , it won’t do any arm.

I'm quite sure that's the case and that there are uncoded boats being let via BoB; the MCA tend only to act if bad things happen, so it will require a drunk to fall off a pontoon or a late-night breath of fresh air ending in tripping over the side and drowning before anything happens, then the owner can face being the next Rafiki.

Coding only applies to vessels that are to be used as a moving charter. RThats how Beds on board got around the law. We had air Ba nd B in our marina and lots of problems which then followed that MDL did a deal with Beds on Board, I went to several meetings about the set up and conditions of rental.
MDL only allowed them to be used and it does say this in your contract. Air B&B is not permitted in any MDL marina if found to be rented on Air B&B I would expect them to act.

MGN280 would seem to differ, a lack of active enforcement doesn't mean there isn't a requirement.

Glad you like Brixham. We've been here seven years now after twenty or so in Conwy and Holyhead.

It’s another usage of marina spaces for something other than private berthing. If it’s done in small amounts it’s probably fine, but otherwise will reduce conventional berth availability and put upward pressure on pricing.

A mate of mine did the air Bnb in Brixham while he a viewing a boat to buy , he said the air Bnb was great but the guy in a F34 in the next berth was a miserable git.
