Those quicker on the uptake than this very old man should know that NOAA is trialling AIGFS. The easiest way to get them (for me, at least) is via the Saildocs email system. Does anyone have better ideas?

Pretty sure the AIGFS model is now described as operational.

you can also get AIGFS, as well as the EC's AIFs, and many other models, within the Expedition navigation program.

although the program is quite expensive to buy, you can download and install the program without a license.

the weather downloading works without a license (or at least it did). This is pretty convenient as you just draw a box around the area of interest.

You then view the gribs in the unlicensed expedition, or they can also be opened in other programs.
