aicon 52 help?

PYB, I don't think its right to say that squadron would be "saving 60-70% of market value".
Actually, PYB mixed up the saving vs. the "market value" with the savings vs. a "new market price", I reckon.
It's pretty obvious that the CURRENT market value of this boat is not 650k Eur or whatever, and I don't think this is what PYB meant.
Otoh, I agree that it's irrelevant the fact that it was sold at such amount back in its days.
What really matters at the end of the day for the OP is, is there any comparable alternative available at a lower (or similar) price?
For what can be said without having seen the boat, I really don't think so.
But I'd be curious to see it if anybody could highlight one.

PS: talking of the refusal to consider offers from the broker, there's actually a positive side of that.
Since he's insisting that the boat is perfect, the 200k offer could be made subject to a thourough survey.
It's very likely that the survey will highlight some items in need of TLC, and that would be the best moment for some negotiation.
Also because by that time, the seller will know that the buyer is genuinely interested.

also curious, in that case, who pays the surveyor? squadron or the broker?
I assume the client, in which case if something serious turns up and he wants to walk away, can he claim that to the arrogant (possibly) broker?

Squadron (that's a bad nick mr, wait till you start discussing buying an sq58 and then its going to be a real mess in the conversations... :D ) must be fairly confident before starting spending a grand here and there for each boat he's considering...

hi v , yes your right, i do want to be confident before i fly 17hours to look at something , no 3 hour easyjet for me down to med. tbh i thought that the level of courtesy would be much higher, even though in boating terms i guess this is a very cheap boat, i dont think i have ever been flatley refused a chance to negotiate in all my years in business , or maybe he was just having a bad day . oh well at least the uk brokers seem more professional, so far anyway.

That wouldn't be easy because nobody is going to advertise how low an offer they are going to accept. My information from brokers is that some 50ft F/B boats in the Med from well known manufacturers are actually going for €200-250k, whatever the asking price might be. Squadron needs to look around the market and find one or 2 models he really likes and then make some low offers until one is accepted

LOL, do tell, did you talk to them 'cause you're thinking to sell yours?
That sounds pretty much as an argument of a broker who's interested in a quick & easy sale... :D

I can tell you haven't sold your boat in a long time:) Brokers usually try to talk the value of your boat up, not down, in order to encourage you to put your boat on the market with them. If a broker tells you that your boat is worth a lot less than you think it is, you're hardly likely to want to sell it, are you? My information comes from recent conversations with 3 separate Med brokerage companies

Precisely, the value of your boat.
By telling you that similar boats now sell for say 200, they hope you'll be happy to sell yours for 250!
There's no need to sell your own boat, to understand the nature of the beasts... ;)

That statement doesn't tell us much without knowing the age of the boats, as you've always been able to buy old flybridge boats for that figure, in fact wasn't Bart offered a 70 foot Canados for €250k?

edit: though I don't dispute the underlying message that the value of mid sized flybridges has dropped

Yes you're right, I didnt qualify that. I'm referring to 5 - 10yr old 50 footers. Yes, bartw is an example of how low a price you can pay for a decent boat if you try hard enough

yes indeed,
I believe this is typical for older boats +15yo..
there are so many of them around that in some cases,
you can get boats at any budget you like,
depending on the situation the seller is in; keeping in mind the permanent cost of keeping the boat in good condition.

for younger FB boats 5..10yo, I believe prices are a little more predictable/stable, but also there I have a feeling that opportunities are around. (like this Aicon)
Again, resale after some time might be an issue,
not considering the depreciation, but simply finding a buyer

hi mike , is there any chance you could recommend a couple of good brokers please , you may want to pm them to me just so as not to upset anyone who may have their own boat listed with them.

many thanks, david
