Coming round from Ardfern,we had noted the echosounder non functioning.Bogger!

Moored in pitch dark, but next visit to boat to fix all snaggings.Noted when fettling up boat that there was a bottle of castor oil.Hmmm, someone got problems. Then previous owner told us newbies that aforesaid oil was for defunct and dried out e-sounder. Bogger again, as had ditched it, as felt all fully functioning in that department, not thinking of boat.

Many miles in Loch Sween from purveyors of aforesaid oil,but suddenly brain cell rolls into socket!

Pass the extra virgin olive oil! Nae problem,E-sounder mended, and able to venture forth to McCormaics with impunity.

The pasta bolognese was pretty good too!

Re: MacCormaigs

Not really much to do with echo sounders or oil, but vaguely relevant . . .

Got a call from friends tonight in the anchorage at Eilean Mòr - they have sounded the area from the dinghy and confirm there is no trace of the rock on the W. side, which is reported in Lawrence as maybe blown up by the army - so it looks like it's definitely gone.

The trouble with using castor or virgin oil for this is that if it leaks there is quite a mess. I am using fresh water with a bit of antifreeze as recommended by the instrument maker - works just as well!

I phoned NASA and they stick with their recommendation of cooking oil. I guess they do not like the viscosity of water and antifreeze. When you think of it the Mums to be would not water and antifreeze on their tummys.

I just like spinning cd's

I am glad NASA approve, and will stick by the EVOO for the season to see how it performs, after all,it's handy to have,if we want to toss a salad,or cook some ratatouille.

No Mums to be now, been and pupped ,eons ago,but you never know the minute,I suppose,it is the West coast after all.

Re: MacCormaigs

Nick,is this a further blowing up of the rock? Last we heard several years ago, when last visited ,was that a partial spike remained making it even more treacherous.

Re: MacCormaigs

No, there was only ever one attempt as far as I know . . .

Friends sounded all round the area from the dinghy and didn't find anything . . . I guess what is needed ios for someone with diving gerf to go down and have a really good look.
