Ah Kingston I look back with great affection maybe because I’m of an age when I can remember when you could still Moore somewhere near the Town Center ! Now days of course it seems every single available space is taken up by the same old same old live abords or the usual crowd of floating flotsam and jetsam that seem to hog all the available moorings 52 / 7 ? Still who can blame them! It’s pretty obvious that Neither the authorities in Kingston or the EA give a damn so silly not to just take advantage of other boaters that might just have the opportunity of mooring on the odd occasion when visiting Kingston.

The Boaters Inn often has space and if you don't mind mooring with the junkies, the Royal Palace moorings usually has a space or two.

Its time that Kingston Upon Thames did a 'reverse Staines' and rename itself plain old 'Kingston' because the 'Thames' bit has frankly become a bit of an embarassment. The neglect shows that the local authorities clearly don't value the river that runs through the town or want to do anything to encourage visitors ariving by river.

If Jerome K Jerome revisited his starting point he would no doubt have many observations to make.

It's a shame, because when I were a lad the only thing that faced the river was a market, a tannery and a power station. Then the developers moved in and Kingston was on the river again. Bars, restaurants, apartments, even a bit of a promenade. But Kingston council couldn't be arsed and the finger pontoons fell into disrepair reducing mooring space for visitors. It's a shame, because people want to see boats, they don't go down to the river to watch the water flow or spot the swans.
There's a new council now, but my concern is a Liberal council will concentrate on bicycle facilities and not the river. I'm subsidising someone else's hobby and I'm expected to pay through the nose for mine.
