the insurers were looking at getting her off the rocks
my mate was told she cost £3m so one assumes she is not going to be left
however whatever rescue is decided has to happen pdq.

Not exactly brand new

The boat, now named John Player, is the ex-Ji Fung, formerly the Outward Bound sail training ship in Hong Kong. She was built in HK around 20 years ago. A very small crew of 7, I was one, plus the new skipper delivered her to Dubai early last year for a refit prior to her setting out in her new role as an advertising platform for BAT.

None of that original crew remain onboard now, the last survivor returning to HK two months ago. All of us would be unanimous in saying that the skipper was to put it mildly an eccentric ego-maniac.

This is not the first grounding and the list of incidents just grows and grows. It would be funny if it were not so tragic.

do i understand correctly that ji fung is wrecked/lost? i sailed aboard her in 1986/7 with captain Chris Blake and am saddened if this is true
