hi does anyone know about this harbour - at the end of the runway for Argostoli airport?

not on my charts / plotter / pilot book. Google map photo not very clear

went past the other day and there were some sizeable boats in, judging by the masts.

If its useable and cheap / free, could be a good spot for crew changes flying in / out ???

thanks

J

If nothing else, Journeyman, you've confounded Google. As you may have discovered, a search for "agia pelaia harbour kefalonia" produces just one solitary hit...for your post. A few interesting photos, though, if you try the same search without "harbour". Looks interesting, if deep enough.

I've not been in but was talking to a skipper who runs a charter yacht out of Argostoli. He'd hoped to base his boat there, but says it's largely taken over by local fisherman.

Thanks Mac, Love to Lynne (I need a haircut)!!

Thanks JF, I definitely saw yacht masts there, biggish 2 spreader jobs. I guess therte is only one way to find out then ..... picking people up next Tuesday, will report back here

thanks laika,

jimb says " Off-shore reefs to be negotiated." There is nothing I can find on paper or e chart - so I guess the old fashioned way, eyeballs and *ollox!

I'll report back

If intending to drop off crew to fly out, we prefer to moor in Argostoli, behind the Port Police or at Sami. The little harbour you mention just isn't worth the trouble

Approaching Agia Pelagia; from the west, one right angle bend needed to avoid two submerged rocks.

There are two low offshore islets to the south, the north one about 400m off shore. From a wide westerly sector (which is deep water), head to a point about 100m north of the northern island (it's reasonaly steep to). From there, head northwards to the harbour entrance, (which is only about 40m wide) at the west end of the bay. Looking astern, the islands should be just open of each other. That keeps you clear of the submerged rocks

Inside the outer rough stone breakwater is an inner concrete harbour, hard and quayside, much of which was dredged to 3m. Small vessels occupy quite a lot of the northern part of the harbour; larger vessels moor end on to the E-W portion of the quay.

Some nice hotels with swimming pools nearby!

Hi
We used it last year to pick up crew , Benetteau 42 .no issues lots of local boats but space available ,we ended up using a locals lazy line (with permission) and will be using it again in August to collect crew, under flight path but a short transfer from airport 5 mins have to explain to taxi drivers about the harbour location ! Make the approach as Jimb states ,and a good description of harbour itself lotds of EU money spent some electric and some water outlets work but mostly connected to the local boats .
