Having read many threads here on topics, would one agree that the forum is quite aggressive to postings and more importantly to their posters sometime crossing over to offensive?

Is this due to the fact that would one agree to most forumites are usually business persons or persons who are in a managerial position therefore not often contradicted in normal life and find it difficult to understand other opinions that indeed differ to their own?

Or are sailors a miserable lot in general?

I must agree with your reply as after being abused on the phone, then to meet the agrieved customer in person, to be surprised by their friendliness.

Are you sure? :D:D There is something very nerdy about spending lots of time on these forums.

I dont think it has anything to do with "management" and not a lot to do with many of us being a bit older and more cantankerous than average. I believe it is keyboard warrior syndrome - much easier to be rude on a keyboard than it is face to face

And some of us ( OK I'll hold my hand up to this one) are just argumentative old sods.:o

I agree. There are a number of posters who are overly aggressive. This is not good and personally I find it off putting. These forum pages are a treasure trove of remarkable information for the use of all and don't need policing by a few angry people who spend way too much time delivering unecessary opinion. Having said that, it does take all sorts to make up the fabric of any society and this forum is no exception.

I think at first it can be seen as aggressive... but after a while when you get used to it and get into the groove.... you realise it is just Robust!

A healthy thing IMO... another forum I go onto is a damp squib and they dont have a sense of humour.

Communication via the written word is completely different to verbal face to face communication where over 90% of the communication is non verbal. Therefore the missing 90% is a result of the receiver perception engine ;-) which can lead to 1) completely different messages being received from what it is the intent to send and/or 2) exaggerated verbal to compensate for the lack of the non verbal.

Of course that could all be bollox, and the place is just full of cac (crabbit auld curmudgeons).. ;-)

I post on many forums and there is always a small minority who think their duty in life is to prove themselves right and everyone else wrong at every opportunity. Luckily they are in a small, generally unliked, minority.

The bonus side of being a gobby on the internet is that it helps to keep the A&E's clear of concussion cases..look on the bright side of life..:D :D
