'Age shall not weary them...'

Let’s face it....they are weekend only if it’s sunny....babied cars. Their reliability record is probably close to perfect
When we look around at achievers we imagine that they will have taken great satisfaction from whatever it was, making millions, writing a best-seller, winning a war or whatever, but in the end they are probably just as dissatisfied as the rest of us. I can say that I have raised a good family (2), worked in a respectable profession, and had a varied sailing life, but in no way have I left my mark on the world. Short of writing a novel or committing some dastardly crime, I don’t think there is much I can do about it.

This was supposed to be latched onto #38 but a gremlin decided otherwise.

Never too late...

Getting back to the subject:

Let me die a youngman's death
not a clean and inbetween
the sheets holywater death
not a famous-last-words
peaceful out of breath death

When I'm 73
and in constant good tumour
may I be mown down at dawn
by a bright red sports car
on my way home
from an allnight party

Or when I'm 91
with silver hair
and sitting in a barber's chair
may rival gangsters
with hamfisted tommyguns burst in
and give me a short back and insides

Or when I'm 104
and banned from the Cavern
may my mistress
catching me in bed with her daughter
and fearing for her son
cut me up into little pieces
and throw away every piece but one

Let me die a youngman's death
not a free from sin tiptoe in
candle wax and waning death
not a curtains drawn by angels borne
'what a nice way to go' death

Sorry I missed your joke - so used to people poking fun at the car. Got back before dark but there is nothing Lucas on the car. They had gone before mine was made. Some of my best trips have been in the dark. I go to Gloucester every 3 years for the 3 Choirs festival and often take the Morgan. The drive back to Poole in the middle of the night is magic if you can avoid the Sainsbury and Tesco lorries!
Lots of Lucas stuff on this one, do relate to your evening drive, do it often summertime, mostly quiet country roads hereabouts. Admit not the same experience as a Morgan more of a leather and walnut wafter but windows down, big six booming away, just a delight.

I do still sail (and enjoy it) but less and less, age has "wearied me" mainly it's about prepping the boat beforehand then tucking her up after a few days away, I won't leave a boat without cleaning her for next time. It now seems after all these years an inordinate amount of time doing what has become the tedious stuff to get to the enjoyable bit afloat. Strange because I used to love just getting down to the boat doing the prep and tucking her up after a passage, even enjoyed the winter/spring boatyard rituals of winterising etc, but no more.

Not giving up yet but can see the time.

I would have said just sail don’t clean.....but going by your car, that isn’t in your DNA....I suspect that you have a bit of an obsessive streak and as you say would rather give up than compromise .
Your car is a beauty....I bet your boat is too 😀

Not far from where i lived there was a nice tunnel under a railway. Not very long but good enough. I used to love going under it , double de cluching down a gear & roaring through & hearing the exhaust note.
However, Late one night, returning home, full of euphoria, having given a speech, I just roared straight through, at about 65 MPH, without realising that there was a large puddle there. The water shot up throught the gear lever shroud, hit the hood & showered muddy water all over me. More came through pedal holes up my trouser legs & the doors where I had removed the windows. When I got home all my clothes were soaked. Oh how I miss my Morgan

Yes that Triumph TR engine did have a lovely exhaust note given that it was originally designed for use in a tractor! My Ford Zetec is a bit bland compared with that.
