after a rigid solar panel, £100-200. What one to get?

theres literally no room or a way for mounting a larger than 50w panel on my boat. a solar arch or a pre-made mount is the only way and i wanted a way to do it before i launch end of this month

just found out the noa pole only takes maximum 80w anyway, nothing about that on force4 where i ordered it

Only 80w on a 40mm pole ?

Here's a couple of pics of the 60w panel and pole i took off when i fitted my new arch (which is only 25mm too).

have an idea. i could maybe get x2 50w panels from midsummerenergy. bolt them together or have one mounted per panel bracket. unsure how i would wire them into one controller though

went with the victron 80w only. i spoke with noa and they say the panel mounts arent designed to handle a larger panel in strong winds. oh well, better than no panel.

edit. used battery megastore in the end for the victron as midsummer had to order it in. excellent customer support midsummer have however

Little known but NOA will supply their mounts with longer arms. Recently supplied two to take the new Victron 175W panels (only an inch longer than standard, so no more expensive). Couple of weeks lead time for special order.

how did you arrange a longer arm?. I asked noa2go but he said hes still waiting to hear from the manufacturer...

the mounting holes on the Victron 80 are just a bit wider than the NOA so i may just drill the holes into the panel to get it to fit. the panel is long though. 1195x545x35mm

I buy NOA through Meridian Zero (trade only) and they sorted it out.

Don't think it's unusual to need to drill mount and/or panel to fit as long as sensible location.

I need to keep the NOA mount now as i have drilled the holes into my boats sugar scoop for the base.

do you think the panel will be ok on the mount. its 80W which is the max the noa is meant to support-

only pic i have is this bad pic. My new panel and the noa.

Mike, is that through Allgadgets Marine? I may well be interested - all the solar panels that I have been looking for seem to be about 20mm wider than the NOA mounts.

Hello,

I have checked and NOA are only able to supply different size rail fittings rather than different size poles, so I'm afraid not.

FU NOA!

and yes nearly all panels are wider/longer than the NOA bracket.

went to install the bracket onto the scoop last night. had to take the nut off the bolt and unscrew it a bit to get to the right hand screw, done then screwed up the bolt again to get at the left hand screw.. it is stuck and wont budge. I tried with a ratchet socket set and then the allan key slot rounded off. terrible quality! now im stuck with an screw i canot get to and a 8mm bolt that wont budge

The ones I supplied were the rail mount only type, with 38mm bushes and arms extended by 25mm. I haven't tried getting a longer bar for the pole mount type. But too large panel could clearly place an excessive moment on the pole in windy conditions.

Sorry, no answer on base mount apart from usual techniques.
