african queen...

never mind the leechy bit,

I would of thrown her over board when she started pouring the gin over the side!!!!

no idea about naval tradition these women,

once a rum rat, always a rum rat,

now where's me grog?

and yes nearly forgot,

merry Humbug everybody.

It always reminds my of some of our boat trips, and being as this is the first year for ages, that we have not had a pantomime on here. (mind the last few have been vairly dire.)

What about an African Queen Pantomime.

The Marina managers can be the nasty Germins, burning the marina Yacht club and shooting at the African Queen, presumably for none payment of some extortionate price, for overnight mooring.

Then theres the rapids, or is it Start Point, maybe Portland Bill.

The. Stuck in the read bed bit, must be either The Norfolk Broads. Or maybe the top end of the Lancaster canal, or some place up the East Coast.

I'm just struggling with who's ship to torpedo. Is it French!!

Possibly closer to home than people may realise. Apparently some of the scenes were shot at the top end of Poole harbour around the Wareham river frome entrance? You can see the similarity and there are leaches as my daughter found out shrieking loudly! Happy new year.

Most of the action takes place aboard a boat - the African Queen of the title - and scenes on board the boat were filmed using a large raft with a mockup of the boat on top. Sections of the boat set could be removed to make room for the large Technicolor camera. This proved hazardous on one occasion when the boat's boiler - a heavy copper replica - almost fell over onto Hepburn. It was not bolted down since it also had to be moved to accommodate the camera. The small boat used in the film was made in a boatyard in Lytham St Annes, my town of birth!!!.

Paul.
