Just finished watching the hotel inspector on Channel 4 featuring the African Queen which plies its trade on the upper Thames. The opening said it is moored three miles east of Reading, but it looked like Mapledurham to me which is west of Reading. Other than that quite an interesting programme and some familiar views of the river at Reading, Sonning and Shiplake.

I had not really been aware of the boat, which was one of its problems, but saw it coming out of Sonning Lock last Friday. I hope they prosper as it brings a bit of extra interest to the river.

Wasn't this was the boat that was banned from mooring at Henley on Mill Meadows by the Town Council with both sides arguing their positions in the Henley Standard earlier this year?

She is indeed moored at Mapledurham lock, just a few hundred yards from our house. We met a lady at the Mapledurham country show earlier this year who was staying on the Arican Queen with a bunch of 'Saga louts', she said the food was excellent, it's good to see that they are making a success of it.

Yes, they do seem to be doing ok now. I see them out quite a bit. So you are just down a bit from us then Steve ? There was a glimpse of our place as they went past.

Not the same person, but yes, just opposite the meadow.
Are you on the reading side of the lock ?
