After my previous post about how to tidy up the moulded sink in our little Pegasus 700, we have purchased a shiny new stainless sink from Penguin Engineering.

The existing sink is moulded into the 'step' in front of the companionway and has a moulded step that allows a lid to sit flush. The plan is to cut the sink out just below this 'step' so that we can retain the existing lid and then somehow fix the sink up from underneath. The new sink has a rim about 10mm wide around the top. The million dollar question is, how to affix it? Can I use some adhesive sealant like Puraflex or Sika 5200 ?

I have a similar arrangement at home, and the sink just appears to be gooped in, so it should work.

Top tip, which I always remember just after I've started spreading the goop: mask up the areas where you don't want it to go BEFORE you start spreading it. It's messy stuff!

I use builders gloop like Sticks Like Sh*t and this holds things in place very well. A fraction of the price of marine adhesives. Agree 100% on the masking tip, although said stuff cleans up well with white spirit.

In my last two boats, I've screwed the sink down and chucked the usual under-counter clamps, which are made of mild steel so after a few years rust in solid. This doesn't look unsightly and makes servicing the sink and taps, including eventually resealing, so much simpler.

I use regular silicone sealant, which is good for many years. Whatever you use needs to be flexible, and definitely not a strong adhesive as that means you will wreck the sink if you ever have to get it out.

We used butyl tape after finding the silicon we used didn't last. (Though it was a good one but may not have been). This is to a mosaic tiled surface though so harder to seal with the grout joints.
(Silicon worked fine in our house kitchen and bathroom)
If you use butyl you need something to clamp the sink down with. These are often very hard to use in the cramped space underneath and make sure they are stainless. Ours were a small angle bracket with a bolt to clamp it.
