AF between the tides ?

Another tip for working in a muddy location, a cheap plastic inflatable (one of those really dangerous kids toys) is great. Easy to drag over the mud, comfortable to lie on & who cares if it gets A/F dripped on it! Perfect to let you get between the keels of a bilge keeler.

And, if it doesn't get punctured on a sharp shell it's easy to wash off for the kids to use later (but please keep a rope tether on it!)

youve seen our tender then? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif excellent idea that.I generally lie on a piece of tarpaulin ,a dinghy would be far better and towing it back to the mooring would wash it off.

Removing old antifoul from your boat when in the water is not legal in Australia, the boat must be taken ashore for cleaning, this is to prevent a build up of toxic materials in the water.

Is this rule the same world wide?

Avagoodweekend......

I'm glad that some of us regard it as 'normal'. Wot, pay for a lift out? Much better things on which to spend £200.

Have always picked a Spring tide in mid-summer, scrubbed off in advance, never washed off, applied only one coat, and taken a second day for boottopping and a bit of polishing.

Just two of us these days, three a bonus and essential for over 30ft LOA.

Not sure about the legallity .If it needed scraping I wouldnt do it on a beach but if it just needs a bit of a scrub and quick wet and dry I dont feel too guilty about it.

Grief. You've got a lot of gubbins on there!

i had an RNLI SEA CHECK ,The nice man said I needed more gubbins /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. the swimming ladder stows above the waterline when its folded up not in use. All the other gubbins are fairly essential I think?

I antifouled my 32 ft Arthur Robb, Tudor Rose, between tides for many years - Always used International cruiser type a/f - no problems - always washed down with fresh water from a garden spray - told onlookers I was spraying with weed killer!

It is worth waiting until June or even July - no point in doing it earler as a/f erodes before the growing season. Have a scrub earlier if you need to but a/f later in the year for max benefit.

I use a radiator roller - gets round the curves easy - and touch up with a 2" brush important to start at the bottom and work up, that way you dont get a/f paint in your hair.

See, all this talk about having to suffer with mud and no water supply can be avoided, if you can get to Itchenor in Chichester Harbour.

The harbour conservancy manage the scrubbing posts there, the western one has a water supply and with long enough leads you can get to the power supply. The surface is good and solid, mainly gravel. I think it cost about £20 for the day.

Associated question - we antifoul just before the boat goes back in after the winter. Last year we changed from red to black antifoul cos thats all the swindlery had, and all year i have been conscious every time the boat heels of the two red splodges where the props were.

Is it viable to slap some paint over these places while the boat is in the slings on the crane, or will it just wash off again?
