I am getting a good voltage from generator and from the controller but no amps.
Is that the controller just doing its job or is it kaput ?? The box and the resistors never seem to be warm.
And is it essential to have a dump resistor.
I was thinking of using the Marlec controller instead.

What do you mean "good voltage" ? You can get up to 60v in a strong wind on a 12v
It should output 0.5a from 6.5 knts of wind and give around 2 to 10 amps in 10 to 20 knts.
The dump resistor is extremely important as all those amps have to go somewhere when the batteries are fully charged.
A marlec works in a completely different way and would end up a melted mess plus I think they deal with ac whereas the aerogen outputs dc.
You can connect the turbine directly to your battery for measurement purposes ,ie measuring amps.
The genuine charge controler usually hum/buzz when working.
The turbine has a rectifier built into it to convert the generated ac to dc.

Marlec are DC input to the controllers, not sure that the HRDI would work but the old RWS200 with the dump resistor should be OK. However as usual much lack of detail in OP so don't even know how or where he is measuring amps?

The controller must be of a type which diverts the excess output to a dump resistance. See the owners manual.
A Marlec controller will not be suitable.

One test to see if Aerogen is outputting is to short the two leads coming from it, which should stop it or, in strong wind slow it down noticeably. If it makes no difference then most likely the bridge rectifier is duff. Easy enough to replace it's mounted inside on the back cover but make sure you get the connections right.

They are getting rarer as the years go by. The aerogen 4 is still 240w max.
Brilliant wind turbines, very well made and good for at least 25 years without problems.
Compared to the rest they are extremely quiet.
