After the success of the first video I posted on the forum I thought I would submit another. On Sunday I braved it by flying my aerial photography quadcopter from our Sealine F37 in the open sea on a trip from Port Solent to Bembridge for a spot of lunch. Bearing in mind the conditions were not exactly ideal the boat and the quadcopter faired up very well. The wind speed at points was around 20mph so you should get a good sense of how well the self leveling camera performs. I am going to try and fly the quadcopter again on a sunnier day from the boat as it does make a significant difference to the quality of the picture however I have edited it as well as I can...ENJOY - the video is best watched in the YouTube HD mode

This is fantastic! Thanks for posting that. Can you put up a pic of the copter cam so I can see how it's set up please coz it sure beats a fixed cam mount. You make it look easy but I'm sure it's not?

Fantastic stuff F33. You must be really pleased with that- I would be. Thanks for posting. Would you mind saying exactly which make of quad copter, gimbal, fpv specs and camera you used there?

Thanks Jfm for the comments - yes I am very pleased with the outcome - the spec is

Quadcopter - DJI phantom 2
Camera - GoPro black running on 1080p 60fps
Gimbal/self leveling camera element - H3-3D
FPV equipment - 5.8mhz immersion rc
FPV monitor to view the live footage - black pearl monitor
I am also running a mini iosd, this allows me to see live stats on the monitor screen such as my height, distance away, speed, battery voltage remaining, direction to come back to the boat etc

I have flown model planes for 17 years but I have only flown quadcopters for less than one year so my experience does help. The trick is to take your time and make sure the footage looks at smooth as possible - easier said than done
 
The range is around 1000m - if it goes out of signal it automatically returns to the point of take off - not exactly ideal whilst out at sea lol

Are you aware of any add-on whereby the Tx transmits its own GPS posn constantly to the copter so that upon battery or other failure the Phantom comes home to the last- received Tx position rather than to its original Take off location? Would be very handy on a boat

Superb vid F33man, real result.

I'd say that would be an option if it's possible to bind a hi end transmitter to the DJI, would only be part of a fail safe programming. If not it'll only be a matter of time before it's took up as part of the spec.
