Hi all!
We are planning to insure with 'Offshore Risk Management' in Florida&BVI (underwriter is Great Lakes Reinsurance). Anybody had any experience of this Co.? There are a lot of 'first' for us since we are just about to become liveaboards and we appreciate your kind feedback!

you might get better info by posting this query on the ssca forum. they are more american orientated than this forum.
( ssca = seven seas cruising assoc ).

Great Lakes Re: - Originally a Canadian company, set up in 1951, bought by Munich Re and registered in London. One Chancery action against them, details unknown.

The brokers (I suspect they are underwriters without registration) are totally off record - the mention of the re-insurance company makes me very wary, as does the BVI registration.

IMHO not a crystal-clear DON't, but enough contra-indications to look for a more authenticated insurer.

PS A US forum would have been completely befuddled by the question.

i stand corrected. i had no idea the cousins were that stupid.

I have used Mariner's General, which is a large well established US company who are prepared to be very flexible about matching the policy to your sailing requirements, and also helpful and flexible about amending your policy as you move from cruising area to cruising area which works out cheaper than one huge cruising area.
My policy was underwritten on the London Insurance market.

They have offices all over the US, but the office at Bradenton FL would be the most appropriate for you. The guy in charge there is very good.
They are not the cheapest, neither are they the dearest.

The one time I had to make a claim, their service was second to none, and they gave us 24 hour support while the boat was being retrieved and repaired.
They certainly out performed any British company at the time for flexibility and price.
Feel free to PM me if you want any more info. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif
