Hi, I'm planning to buy a Fairline Squadron from about 8 years old (or Princess, Hatteras or Storebro around 55 foot) to live on in Holland through the year.

Can anyone advise me, if this is the right boat for this purpose? Will the cold winter be comfortable?

What's a good place I can trust in the UK to buy a boat?

Best.

Hi Dan,

Most 55' boats will be more than comfortable enough to live aboard. Certainly, something like a 55 Squadron would make for easy living. There are many other boats in that category that would do an equally good job, including the likes of Linssons for example.

Much depends on whether you also intend to use it to travel as well, in which case perhaps cruising speeds may become important.

With regards to winter comfort, you should have no problems at all on a boat that has reverse cycle aircon, or indeed good old Eberspacher diesel powered heating.

There are an abundance of brokers in the UK, but perhaps if it's a Squadron you are after, you could start with Essex Boatyards. See their website, they usually have a large number of boats for sale.

Good hunting
