I am changing my search objectives as I am living in France.
I am told that under 7M attracts no tax. So if I am looking for something UNDER 7 Metres, most here seem to choose outboard and have a spare attached to the side. I would like a cabin, with heads and shower. Anyone able to give me some makes to look out for ? a) For the boat b) advice on choosing outboards. The vessel would be used for short day cruising, maybe some fishing, and also when my sons visit for water skiing. So with this list of uses it should be multi purpose. It is amazing here that ALL seem to go for this format. I am near Meze, down the coast from the ports of Montpellier. Thanks .

Maybe a small "Peche Promenade" type, like a Beneteau Antares? Alternatively, maybe a Fletcher 19, which is more of a pure sportsboat but very seakindly for its size. You won't find many for sale in France but it would be a practical proposition to buy in the UK, with a trailer, and tow back home, maybe. The "shower", if it has one, will be a cold water shower at the stern /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif.

I'm no expert on outboards, but have a look see what's on the back of most boats in your part of the world and ask the owners what they're like.

Check out the Jeanneau Leader range (smaller ones are outboard power), or this equivalent from Beneteau (web page), they'll be widely available in France. I guess it's the length on the registration document that matters rather the actual length of the boat, and these could be very different given the French aversion to paying tax, so you may be able to get a bigger boat that says <7m on the cert.
