I have a buyer for my 1978 Powles 46 Dreamfinder but there's a catch.

The new owner is in Gurnsey. Dreamfinder is in Fleetwood, Lancashire. He want's me to deliver it - he will pay for the delivery but I am concerned about the weather particularly off Lands End.

We sailed her round from Southampton in 2019 but that was in the height of summer.

I have no worries about the boat mechanically or safety wise but what would you do if it was you?

There are plenty of professional skippers that would possibly be available short notice at the earliest weather opportunity. Maybe easier for you than committing time.
3 reasonable legs over 3 days ?

I would want to have a contract where the boat is sold and paid for where it is currently (ie Fleetwood).

It is then the new owner’s responsibility to contract a delivery crew for the trip. (You may of course suggest a few names of companies, without specifically recommending any.)

Any other route could be problematic if anything goes wrong, or the condition on arrival is deemed to be different to what was the condition at time of agreement to purchase. And things do go wrong on delivery trips.

Absolutely the way to go, we bought from Holland last year, payment and deal was done over there. Then we sent a skipper to bring her back (Amsterdam to IOW in December)

Well has he seen the boat if so , get him to pay in full get him to pay transport to say Plymouth, you pay for lift on to lorry he pays for unload , you drive down take a mate with you or a captain deliver the boat say 100 miles , ferry back both happy.

This all over, things DO go wrong on delivery trips and you want to make sure you won't be the one paying the bills or ending up in some dispute over how the boat was treated between where it is now and when it arrives.

What would the fuel, marina fees and skippers cost be ?

What would delivery by truck to say Weymouth or Poole be?

There are a lot of uncertainties in the first option and very few in the second option.

+ 1. You are not selling a delivery service, but a boat located in Fleetwood, not in Guernsey. If he is prepared to pay then he should engage a professional delivery crew. You should make no claims that it is capable of making the passage as is, it is for him to decide whether the boat suits his needs at the price you agree subject to the survey that checks it is as described. Once he completes it is up to him, his surveyor and delivery skipper to determine what is necessary to prepare it for a successful delivery.

Just been through a similar purchase - long way from where I live. Boat was fully functioning, but following discussion with my surveyor (after I bought the boat) decided it needed too much work before undertaking a 300+ mile passage back home - and would not get insurance as it stood. Used a truck instead.
