Our 42 foot catamaran lives in the tropics of north Queensland in Oz. The deck can get very hot under foot though it's white.

We have decided to add some deck patches to get from cockpit to anchor winch without hopping or having to wear shoes.

The product would also have to withstand the very high rainfall and all the problems fresh water brings on board.

So we are looking for some recommendations on a suitable product. There are so many new types on the market now so I am hoping for some advice from people who have found a good one.

We plan to apply the chosen product ourselves so any notes on this will also help.
The area to be treated is rather large so ease of application and of course total cost will also be a consideration along with whether or not it's available in Australia.

Avagoodweekend......

Hi Brian I have just been refurbishing/painting the decks on ole Howzat. That is a fairly ordinary fibreglass deck.
I used in the past and have used this time a 2 pack polyurethane in glossy white. I think this one was Wattyl not a marine paint.
Contrary to instructions I brushed it on. It is exremely toxic for the intended spraying. It looks really quite good.

I painted first the area to be non skid then sprinkled Intergrip on. This is a fine glass or sand type product made for the job by International.
Blow off the excess and when the first coat is dry paint again all over. This gives a slightly less glossy but good gripping finish. If you want smoother finish you give it another coat.
You can't do any better than glossy white for cool decks. Mind you you have to wear sun glasses at all times. good luck olewill

I had a Hartley Ferro on Durban South Africa and the deck was painted white with gray patches and were quite hot underfoot. I then removed all the paint and repainted with all white epoxy ready to take Techtread.
from here
The white painted surface was much cooler than the gray patches under foot in summer in Durban

I got it from a boat jumble last time I was in The UK much cheaper than on the web site

I have not fixed mine down yet but will be by the end of the year.

I went for light gray again as I think the white would become dirty very quickly.

I am doing to use sikaflex 221 as it is the same as 291 but not "marine" prices in white to fix it down

BTW my new boat deck is steel so it may be hotter than the fero or GRP
