I keep my elderly Dufour in the water at Levington Marina over winter. I thought you were supposed to anti-foul each year but reading other threads this does not seem the case.

It does not look very fouled. I was wondering if I could save the cost of anti-fouling this year by simply having it lifted out and scrubbed when they replace the anode?

Any advice gratefully received

I keep my boat at SYH and have it on the hard for winter every two years. The other winter I leave it in and then have a quick lift at the end of the previous summer and jet washed off. I do this at the end of September . I arrange to have it done at lunchtime to give me as much time as possible to check the anodes and grease my Kiwiprop. Jamie is very accommodating . There is not too much growth through the winter.
I used to use Jotun Seaforce 30 which did the 2 seasons well but now you can only get it if you are commercial.
However I have found the Jotun Cupro pretty good.

I leave the boat in the water constantly for 2 years at a time, using International Micron. Not a lot of fouling when I get lifted out after 2 years. Also marina-based.

Does your anode really need replacing every year? If so, consider fitting a larger one and/or a galvanic isolator.

As it sounds like this is all new to you, be advised that if you have any kind of folding or feathering propeller there may well be an anode on that too as well as the hull anode, and the prop anode may not last as long. Perhaps best this time to arrange a quick lift and wash off and have someone knowledgeable on hand to have a look and advise you.

Every year will be different, each bit of the season can be different.
Lift and check !
If the A/F is no longer working its a bit hard work and a tin of cheap A/F.
If the anodes are gone it could be a lot of hard work and serious money.
Last year, the spring early summer growth on my boat was phenomenal. 4 or 5 months after A/F and relaunch the boat virtually ground to a halt.
When lifted it was smothered in just about everthingy that lurks in the water on East coast.
Jetwashed off and gave a coat of £50.00 soft Hempel, our local Chandlery was flogging off (Cheaper than on Ebay).
Took boat out for run after not being used for many months a no asign of any new weed or barnycules.
Always "Lift and Look." ?
