My daughter is looking to buy a yacht of about 30 - 34 ft in Florida and sail to the Caribbean. Do they (America) have the equivalent of a marine survey to ensure that she knows what problems there may be with the boat, and how detailed would that survey be?

Yes, absolutely. There is an association of accredited marine surveyors in the US, The National Association of Marine Surveyors. Their site has a "surveyor finder" section.

If you want an idea of how detailed they can be, copy paste this link into your browser for a sample. Sorry don't know to post links.

Indeed, puts our lot to shame.

That document is more than a survey, it is a new owners DIY refit manual.
