Can anyone recommend a heat & waterproof sealant suitable for a water leak on the weld of waterjacket around hot engine exhaust ( both stainless ). Engine is a Mermaid Turbo 4 plus, mk2. Milliput, Halfords exhaust putty, & Plastic Metal wont hold. I know the answer is to replace or reweld the elbow, but akward to get at and the boat is in regular use till Christmas.
Thanks .... Paul

If it is a round section then apply the exhaust paste and then fit a stainless jubilee clip before the paste dries.

If it is an odd shaped section then apply exhaust paste then bind it with stainless wire instead.

If you can get at it to wrap it then a non-adhesive silicone compression tape should do the trick.
Often referred to as 'rescue' tape, our Bandit tape is one example.

Thanks for that.

Have tried the exhaust filler wrapped tight with gun gum exhaust tape & wired up. Water still oozes out though after a short while.

Is the Bandit tape resistant to heat ?. The patch up needs to be able to resist heat from the uncooled part of the exhaust and also water from the exhaust water jacket.

Have just had a look at the web site. I had thought Bandit was similar to self-amalgamating, but now see it is resistant to temperatures up to 260 degrees C. I am not sure what temperature an uncooled exhaust can get up to, but it looks like that could do the trick.

Thanks for that.
