Advice please? Sticking on Cove Line Tape

I have some to go just above the boot line on a 7 metre sailing boat. Which way do you find best for sticking it on?
I could work my way round bit by bit, or I could unravel a few feet at a time and stick it down, or I could enlist a 2nd person, one doing the sticking and one doing the unraveling. Obviously I don't want creases, or have to split and join the tape, or waste any.

In my case, where the cove line is a groove moulded into the hull - it is just a one man job. I don't remove the backing in advance but rather position the tape in position and then pull the backing tape out backwards. I don't know how well that would work if you had to position the tape on the flat side of a hull.

It is also recommended that you wet the hull first with dilute washing up liquid - that gives you the chance to slide the tape once it has been applied. Without that once it is stuck it is stuck so you don't get a second chance!

I'm replacing old with new on a flat surface. I've already taken the old off.
So you stick the tape onto the washing up liquid? And it still sticks?

Do as much of it one go as you can. Pull the tape out to make it straight. If you try to do a little at a time, it will be wobbly.

As bedouin says, but plenty of soapy water. I use a squirty water spray bottle, squirt the area, usually working about a foot at a time then peel back about a foot of backing, stick it down, slide it around until in the right place. Work all the way along then finally squidg out the excess solution with on old credit card or such like, sometimes they supply one with the vinyl, making sure all the solution is pushed out along with any air bubbles.

Good - it's much easier than one thinks.

tools needed
credit card
house plant sprayer
water
pen or masking tape

Set up the area to be taped with marks as guide line.
Take the sprayer and cove line, strip off backing. Spray the tape and hull liberally.
Position onto the wetted hull and keep spraying water on the hull and tape and stick as you go. Slide cove into the correct position and when happy with the cove lines postion get the credit card and wipe it carefully over the coveline to rid it of the water under.
As the water is squeezed out the cove tape will stick.
The idea of the water is to be able to move it about when in roughly the right area.
