Advice please- how to find the best motorboat.

A boat I would also look if you want a semi displacement would be Nordic Tugs which are very cool and heard so much good reviews about them from captains.
You should always never forget a Grand Banks which is at the top of the list for what concerns a semi displacement yacht. Have been around GBs and I think they are a bench mark in quality and finishing
Displacement and SD is still a devloping market, which in the near future will see important players as Azimut and Ferretti Group take a position in it.
Azimut should release a small 48 Magellano (SD) very soon, and Ferretti Group should also release a smaller Long Range or so say the rumours.

But if you want new and want what is among best quality for a production builder top of my list would surely be the Grand Banks 41 Heritage EU.

Having walked around the SBS last year I have to say in your size range the best IMHO was the Aquastar 55. It was the only SD boat on show in that size range to have a full beam owners cabin. While the Nordhaven and Fleming were very impressive I have to say that the Aquastar nailed it for me. I have to say that Aquastar, Sunseeker and Fleming probably have the 'friendliest' stands and sales people at the show last year- Fairline probably the least friendly- but that's another debate.

Yes there have been threads on this forum before about Fairline's apparent unfriendliness at boat shows. I dont think they go out of their way to piss people off but their policy of only allowing access to their boats if you are accompanied by 'your' salesman is frustrating.
You're right about the Aq57. I think the Fleming 55 suffers a little in comparison as the accomodation layout hasn't been updated in 20yrs. There are other SD boats out there in this size range with midships full beam master cabins such as the Grand Banks 53 Aleutian, Marlow 53 and Outer Reef 58

Of course I will be doing that, and at the time I will have my own criteria. The only question I have now is shout build quality.. Surely someone has an opinion on this?

Not wishing to turn this thread into a sales advert but we do have a reputation for being something of a specialist in high quality, great fit out, semi custom boats - call and chat or have a look at our website.
Always happy to talk and advise where possible.

I see Deleted User has already suggested one of our brands, Van der Valk, as a possible for you.

Mike.
