When you are going upwind, you will want the weight in the middle somewhere. However, if you have the kite up at 25 knots surfing downhill, then all the crew and all the weight will be on the transom to stop the front digging in, because the centre of effort is way forward.through the cockpit drain holes
The only true test is, like my old Corribee, whether your feet get wet as water gurgles up through the cockpit drain holes when you are going along.
