Advice Please - First Bareboat Mallorca

Pete- I rather disagree. I will cover almost as much ground as that today - Andraxt to Cala Dor. Sure be flexible with the weather and avoid Cala Pi ( too narrow) and don't bother to head past Cala Dor to Porto Cristo but it is overall do able.

At the end of the day it is Palma to Cala Dor / Porto Cristo return which is some 2.5 hours in each direction
Yeah but you've been boating for decades and have had your current boat for three or four years.

That's quite different to someone whose only experience is a course and on an unfamiliar boat.

And actually, it's not the distance that's an issue. Any fool can navigate in deep water between two points. It's the bit at each end that's the challenge.

We will agree to differ ! Bouys / marina / large sandy anchorage.

in the spirit of forum cooperation I have just dropped into cala pi for lunch.

All boats had shore lines and it is really not suitable for overnight unless you are happy with shore line mooring ( your rentals won’t have lines long enough ) .

I would add a pic but the forum software does not like the image size.

This will allow you to.

Nice itinery, and great to get exploring but theres a lot to be had from finding a nice bay and taking in the surroundings, than always being on the move.

There are a good few bays in Palma worth visiting, like Illetas, Vells, Palma Nova and even Magaluf and be flexible to the wind too, it's good to get some shelter.

I spent a week anchored off Illetas in Summer 2007. Flitted around the islands dependant on the wind direction. Possibly one of the most memorable weeks of my sailing life. Also enjoyed Porto Colon for a few days.

Thanks again for the comments and feedback, it really is appreciated. As you mention key is keeping us and others safe, enjoying the experience and ensuring Mrs A wants to step foot on a boat again in the future. We will remain flexible but wanted to also get as much practice as possible berthing, anchorage, navigation etc but will amend as the weather dictates.

Cheers again all, if anyone is in southern Mallorca late Sept and sees a GT40 doing donuts for hours on end….you’ll know it’s not gone quite to plan! ?
