Hi All,
Mrs A and I completed our DS Practical in Mallorca earlier this year, we have ICC etc and are heading back for a week bareboat motor charter in late September from Palma. We plan to have a skipper for the first day as we get used to the boat (40 ft GT). For the rest of the week, we want to build confidence, get lots of practice, ideally not hit anything and have a good enjoyable and relaxing week! We have drafted the below itinerary but welcome expert advice, hints or tips.
Day 1: Palma to Cala Pi
Day 2: Cala Pi to Cabrera
Day 3: Cabrera to Porto Cristo
Day 4: Porto Cristo to Porto Colom
Day5: PC to Es Trenc / Sa Rapita
Day 6: Trenc to Palma

Good mix of mooring buoys, Marina and anchorages hopefully.

Have we got this all wrong? ?

Many Thanks

Looks OK but that's a busy schedule, not much time in between to enjoy each venue, might be worth cutting one out.... I do understand you want to maximise use of the boat though. I would probably do 'Es Trenc - Cabrera' as its only a short hop over, giving you more time to relax. Not much else to do in Cab.....!

Hope the trip goes well, and you get good weather slots!

Many thanks for the feedback and tips.

As a relative newbie to boating I find this forum really valuable. I’ll do a post after our trip in case it might be of help to others one day when starting out.

One question on Es Trenc - are there mooring buoys or just drop anchor wherever there is sand and no sea grass?

Cheers again

Es trenc is just a case of drop anchor, there's a mix of weed and sand, but there's plenty of sand,so you should have no trouble finding space.

Nice itinery, and great to get exploring but theres a lot to be had from finding a nice bay and taking in the surroundings, than always being on the move.

There are a good few bays in Palma worth visiting, like Illetas, Vells, Palma Nova and even Magaluf and be flexible to the wind too, it's good to get some shelter.

Es Trenc: This time of year you just need to watch for the jet-ski's buzzing around, but when it gets late, its really lovely, a picture below taken from a beach bar in Es Trenc, with two F43' in the background.... holding as said was very good for our stay on the hook:

Cabrera: Pictures below. Assume the canteen is still open, not sure what my friend Keith was bosting about:

The canteen on Cabrera is still there, I was there a couple of weeks ago.

However ,I understand that the beach bar on es trenc has now been removed. It's almost like the council don't want tourists.

I'd say that's quite an ambitious trip for a newbie in an unfamiliar boat with lots of things that can go wrong. You might be lucky and have fantastic weather, easy berths, etc or it could be a complete disaster with blustery conditions and some tricky berths.

You may take to it all very well or find it all challenging, end up panicking / hitting something, shouting at the crew and having a wife who walks off never to be on a boat again!

So have a plan but be super flexible and be prepared to modify or abandon it if it all gets a bit much. After all, it's supposed to be fun, not a load of stress.

Pete- I rather disagree. I will cover almost as much ground as that today - Andraxt to Cala Dor. Sure be flexible with the weather and avoid Cala Pi ( too narrow) and don't bother to head past Cala Dor to Porto Cristo but it is overall do able.

At the end of the day it is Palma to Cala Dor / Porto Cristo return which is some 2.5 hours in each direction

one more thing on the cabrera moorings, you book them from 1800 on the first day until 1700 the next day, you can come or go at any time in this window though, so you'll need to take this into account with your schedule.

yep, its just a series of fairly short hops, should be fine if the weather plays ball. If the weather doesnt play ball then you may have to modify the plans and go to places on the south western corner of the island rather than the south eastern corner.
