Hello

Now that our mast is off and staying off for the next 3 years, I have 65 metres of brand new Dyneema that I would like to use as mooring line/warps. (Spare main halyard).

Our existing rope is heavy.

16K kg boat.

Is it going to be appropriate for the job?

Many thanks

Nigel

Cant help with the Dynema but what are you doing with the mast? Are you keeping it onboard or having it delivered to your destination? I know people do both??

Packed up and ready for the store shed...
$600 pa which is an amazing rate.
Will be ready for the next owner in 3 to 5 years ;)

Get metal spring ones, but don't go OTT as then they won't give. For what it's worth would it not be easier to just get 20m of 18mm nylon 3 ply?

I wouldn't use it, no stretch will almost certainly cause damage to cleats. I'd go for 14mm polyester, good stretch and pretty resistant to uhv, which is more of an issue where you are now. Thats what I use on Eos, and she's 50% heavier than your lovely vessel. Anything bigger will be quite difficult to handle.

Welcome back to motor boating!

Have you stored all the rigging and sails too? Sorry for the questions, just interested. It's funny you did the ARC crossing then ripped all the "Saily bits" off and turned her into a motor boat lol. :D;):encouragement::cool:

Rigging goes with the mast, just 3 cables. I’m installing a radar mast and will bring the vhf,
Radar and AIS over to that, it will mount over the vacated mast step.

Sails fit easily in one forepeak locker.

We had a great 14 months learning to sail and bringing the boat across was part of the big dream. Trying to find a boat that was in budget and that had the legs - volume and adaptability was how we came up with a sailing catamaran.

We are feeling far more at home now that the mast is gone, the waterways here are peppered with bridges, most have a 20’ clearance - the mast compromises you when the current is ripping - now it’s gone we do not have to wait for bridges to open and transit will be simple - we have a 15.3’ air draft.

Yes, some sailors carry the mast and re step in the lakes but for us, this is at least a 3 year odyssey, coupled with the fact that the mast would overhangs the boat by 20’......

The boat sips fuel, maybe 6 ltrs an hour at river speed, half that when we use just one engine.
